I am investing Rs 1,000 each in 1) UTI Equity, 2) BSL Frontline Equity, 3) SBI Blue-chip 4) ICICI Value Discovery, 5) Reliance Small Cap Fund & Rs 2,000 in HDFC Mid Cap Opp Fund. Is my fund selection good? Also I want to invest Rs 5000 in SIP for only 3 years. Which is the best fund for that? OK suggest me?
You have selected good funds from large cap, diversified and mid & small cap category and can continue with your investments.
However, please note that you must have an investment horizon of 5 years for these equity funds or the new investments of Rs 5,000 that you are planning. However, if your investment horizon is 3 years or less then you should not invest in equity funds and should invest in long term bond funds (also know as income funds).
If you want your new investments to be in equity funds, then instead of choosing in new schemes, invest equally in the existing schemes in your portfolio.
