This is my portfolio at the moment Franklin Templeton Prima Plus Growth Direct - 250000, Franklin Build India Growth Direct - 150000, HDFC Mid Cap Opp Fund Growth Direct - 150000, ICICI Pru Multicap Growth Direct - 250000. I also invest in PPF/NPS with 150000/50000 every year, considering them as debt instruments. I have around 70 Lakh in FDs. Am willing to move atleast 15 Lakh into Mutual Funds. In which funds should I invest? Should I continue with the same funds, or choose different ones? I read that AIR would be reported if I invest more than 10L in a single year in Mutual Funds. So I want to invest by spreading across AMCs. Please advice, any changes in my portfolio. Please specify the fund names to move 15L in lump sum and the amounts, and changes if any in my existing portfolio?
You have invested in good funds and we are sure you know that investing in equity mutual fund schemes carry risk and the minimum investment tenure should be 5 years, if not more.
Please also note that Franklin Build India Fund is a sectoral fund and the fund invests in infrastructure stocks. Being sectoral fund it's performance depends on how the sector is doing and so on. This is the reason why sector funds are most risky as well.
Your current investments are in Infrastructure sector, diversified funds and mid cap funds. The investments that you want to divert from fixed deposits to equity mutual funds can be allocated to large cap equity funds and diversified equity funds.
From large cap category, SBI Bluechip Fund, Birla Sun Life Frontline Equity Fund and Kotak Select Focus are among top performers and from diversified equity funds, investment in Birla Sun Life Equity Fund, SBI Magnum Multi-Cap Fund or DSP BlackRock Opportunities Fund can be considered.
The other suggestion is that for saving taxes you should consider investing in ELSS funds as the returns from PPF, though assured, are far less than what ELSS funds have generated in the last 10-15 years. See the performance of top ELSS funds here https://www.advisorkhoj.com/mutual-funds... Please also read this https://www.advisorkhoj.com/smf...
Please do not worry about the AIR reporting as long as you have filed your income tax returns properly and shown and paid taxes on your investments and incomes from all sources, etc.
Thanks for writing to Advisorkhoj. Hope you find the above useful.
