Can you help reduce number of schemes in my portfolio

I have a portfolio of multiple funds, around 13. I want to reduce it, but don't understand, which one to chuck, as all look equally good. Can you please help me in reducing the following portfolio: DSP BlackRock Natural Resources and New Energy Fund - Direct Plan: 2000, Mirae Asset India Opportunities Fund - Regular: 3000, Franklin India High Growth Companies Fund - Direct Plan: 3000, ICICI Prudential Exports and Other Services Fund: 1500, DSP BlackRock Micro Cap Fund - Direct Plan: 2000, Reliance Small Cap Fund - Direct Plan: 2000, SBI Small & Midcap Fund - Direct Plan: 1000, HDFC Balanced Fund: 3000, ICICI Pru Bkg & Fin Serv-RP: 2000, SBI Pharma Fund - Direct Plan: 2500, UTI Transportation and Logistics Fund - Direct Plan: 2000, Frankline Build India Fund: 3000, ICICI Pru Discovery fund: 2000. I am investing for 15-20 years time horizon, mainly for my kids education?

Yes, you have too many schemes in your portfolio. You are currently doing monthly SIP of Rs 29,000 in 13 schemes.

Please note that for achieving long term goals, SIPs in diversified equity funds could be the best choice. But, we see that some of the funds you have taken to invest are sectoral and thematic funds which are the most risky and may not be suitable for you as you want to meet the child education goal after 15-20 years.

Our suggestion for reducing the number of funds is as follows –

1. Invest in DSPBR Focus 25 Fund in place of DSPBR Natural resources & new energy fund

2. Invest in ICICI Prudential Value Discovery Fund in place of ICICI Prudential Exports and Other Services Fund. Also, replace ICICI Prudential Banking & Financial Services with ICICI Value Discovery Fund

3. Stop SIPs in SBI Pharma Fund and UTI Transportation & Logistics Fund and start SIP in SBI Bluechip Fund

4. Stop SIP in Franklin Build India Fund and add more to Franklin India High Growth Companies Funds

This will reduce the total fund number to 10 and make the portfolio diversified across multi-cap, large cap and mid & small cap.

Hope the above helps! Thanks for writing to us!!
