Is it true that in ELSS if tenure is 10 years, then if the first SIP is pay on 1st June, 2016, 2nd on 1st July, 2016, that same first SIP will be encash on 1st June, 2026 & 1st July 2026? Can I encash the whole amount at once (after completion of 10 year term)?
Please note that lock-in period for ELSS (Equity Linked Saving Scheme) is three years only. Your query is related to investing in ELSS through monthly SIP route for 10 years, right?
In that case, please note that each SIP instalment will be locked-in for three years – That means the instalment of 1st June 2016 can be redeemed after 1st June 2019 and the instalment of 1st July 2016 after 1st July 2019 and so on. However, if you continue the SIP for 10 years term, you can withdraw the entire instalments invested upto 7 years only, after 10 years. The instalments invested post 7th year till end of 10th year can not be redeemed after 10 years as these instalments will be in lock-in period (i.e. 3 years).
