Please advise should I shift from GPF to NPS. I have 11Lac in GPF and 14 years to retire. I am investing Rs 10000 in GPF currently. How do i Do that?
Some portion of your savings should always be in debt instruments and/or fixed earning investments. As your GPF money is giving you assured returns and maybe meant for meeting your needs post retirement, it would not be ideal to break it and invest in NPS.
As you know NPS do not offer assured returns and a portion of your investments is kept locked-in post retirement to provide you an annuity which is taxable - Please read more on this https://www.advisorkhoj.com/articles...
Like any other scheme, NPS has its positives and negatives as you must have understood by reading the above article. Therefore, to build a corpus for NPS, we will suggest you to invest in it separately while enjoying the tax benefit during your service period of 14 years. As you may know you can avail tax benefit of Rs 50,000 per annum under Section Section 80CCD for you investments in NPS. This is over and above the limit of Rs 150,000 which is allowed under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act 1961.
Hope you find the above useful. Thanks for writing to Advisorkhoj.
